Get Some Answers
What is reproductive health?
Reproductive health refers to the physical and emotional wellness of individuals and includes the knowledge, choice, and understanding of pregnancy, pregnancy prevention, sexually transmitted infections (STIs) (including HIV/AIDS), and all forms of sexual violence and coercion.
How do I get birth control?
At your visit a healthcare staff member will discuss your birth control needs and help you find the best option. They will counsel you about how to use the method and provide it in office or write you a prescription. Nothing to be scared of or embarrassed about!
How much will it cost to get birth control?
Local Health Departments provide family planning services regardless of ability to pay. Many sites can accept health insurance including Medicaid, if you are uninsured you will be charged on a sliding fee scale based upon your household income.
Will they be able to tell my parents about my appointment?
All services provided by Local Health Department Family Planning Clinics are confidential. However, your health insurance may send paperwork to your residence.
Can I get screened for STI's/STD's at a family planning visit?
Yes! It's important to get tested after every new partner. STIs can affect your reproductive health. Talk to your provider during your reproductive health visit.
How does emergency contraception work?
Research shows that emergency contraception pills work mostly by preventing or delaying ovulation (the release of an egg from the ovary).
